LADIES SPA DAY
10 am - 5 pm - For the ladies that do not wish to accompany the men on the day trip to the Gulf, The Spa at Sonoran Spa is offering half price spa packages. A limo will be transporting ladies every hour from the lobby of the Penasco Del Sol and the Hotel Baja Cantina to the Sonoran Spa at Sandy Beach.

Sponsored by DEBBIE'S BEACH GRILL, enter your bike in the sand in front of The Thirsty Parrot. Look for the designated area for each specific competition. "Hardass" winner will be determined by the bike that has ridden the longest to attend this event. When registering, please fill in the portion "What Distance Traveled?". 11 AM - 2 PM. Awards given at 2:00 to 2:30 pm.

3pm - 4pm Bikers participating in parade meet at designated area off of Benito Juarez. Parade route map included in your packet Welcoming. Parade to begin at 3 pm and to conclude at 4 pm in the Mirador area at the Sandbar and Manny's Beach Club.

Mar de Cortes International Airport welcomed its first ever commercial flight

Commercial flights have been inaugurated to Puerto Penasco-- FINALLY! Late last month the new Mar de Cortes International Airport welcomed its first ever commercial flight, courtesy of Aereo Calafia. Regular flights, in a Cessna 208 Grand Caravan with a capacity of 13 passengers, serve Penasco every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Here is the current Schedule:

•Penasco to Mexicali 12:50 - 13:40
•Mexicali to Penasco 14:00 - 14:50
•Penasco to Hermosillo 15:05 - 16:25

A lone sunbather shimmers in the distant expanse of white sand.

Pelicans glide over the sparkling Gulf of California, lifting and diving in a light breeze. Only two other people are visible along the shore, a couple holding hands as waves lap against their ankles.
No cartel assassins are shooting it out.

No machine-gun-toting federales stand guard.

The sunbather, Beth Smith of Payson, awakens with a start. "Oh, no," she says, touching her sunburned face. "It's just so peaceful here, I fell asleep. And now, I'm going to be fried."

Such is the plight of tourism in Puerto Peñasco, a Mexican town better known in Arizona as Rocky Point and long regarded as Arizona's beachfront.

Amid an economic recession and drug wars in Sonora, U.S. visitors, once the town's economic lifeblood, are staying away in record numbers. Since 2008, when 2.4 million people swarmed here, the Rocky Point tourism office reports a 50 percent drop in visitors.

Americans who live and work here seem bewildered by the loss of allure for a town that remains a gem by the sea. more.............

Happy New Year!! Can you believe the first month of 2010 is just about gone!

The Holiday week in Penasco was perfect, the weather was awesome!

We had nice bright sunny days with temps in the low 70's. The winds were so light that it became quite warm while sitting in the sun. Just a wonderful way to spend the holidays with family and friends.

The Penasco Childrens Foundation had a successful New Years Eve event at the Sonoran Sun Resort and raised about 1800.00 for the children in one night! The Food at the resturant was wonderful, and the event was enjoyed by all.

Changos on Sandy Beach had a live band and was Rockin all night long, full of happy beach guests to bring in the new year, they were open until 4 am. Standing room only, Talk about a Happy New Years Party! You have got to plan on it for next year.

Roger Clyne & The Peace makers third annual JJ's January Jam

Roger writes great lyrics and the songs have melodies that will stick with you long after the concert. The Peacemakers with P.H, Nick and Jim provide the tightness to make this a super, one of a kind band! The other great thing about this event is the start time. They begin just after sunset and are finished by 9:30 or so.

Puerto Penasco had a severe storm January 21, with winds reaching 65 mph and heavy rain. We received a call from city hall requesting donations of blankets for the people in need.

The Blankets do not have to be new, so, if any of you have some extra blankets not in use please bring them down to Rocky Point next time you come, so we can donate them to city hall.

While we are on the subject of City Hall, the new Government in Puerto Penasco now has Citizens and Residents Wednesdays!

This is your opportunity to speak to the Mayor, Chief of Police, Fire Dept, finance dept, zoning dept, etc about your concerns or thoughts of improvement in our city. Don't worry if you don't speak Spanish. There will be many bilingual people to assist you. The hours are from 10 to 2ish. It is located on the city hall patio. It will be held every Wednesday. This is a wonderful chance to help in the evolvement of Puerto Penasco.

We bring the ATV's, Rihno's, Jeep's and any thing else to play with in the sand. We take rides in the dunes across from the resorts on Sandy Beach. Explore the desert, estuary's, and Competition Hill as we make our way to Cholla Bay.

We take walks along the empty beach and feel a world away from our every day lives. The children love to visit CET-Mar, and the oyster farm.

The beaches are empty, every one you do come across is friendly and happy, talk about some natural stress relief, there is no better way to get back in touch with your family and friends.

At the end of a fun filled day of adventure and exploring we get together in the kitchen, cook up a feast and tell stories of the wonder of the day, best events of the year, and any thing else that comes to mind. We laugh, play games, watch movies.

So, if you're looking for some after holiday stress relief and a way to get away after the big celebrations, check out our secret little fishing village, and start your own family tradition.

New Years is a blast, this year the big New Years Eve event will be at the Sonoran Sun Resort, Mark Mulligan will be the entertainment, he starts at 8:00 PM until whenever Mark is Done Singing!
